Reminds me of a joke about marriage, "The only men who are still excited about getting married. Are getting married to other men"

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I promise you that now, that gay men can marry in the US, women will be pissed of with that. I could absolutely imagine, that gay couples will lead better marriages than straight couples, which will throw a bad light at women.

Also - Maybe some men will just start to marry for the beneftis, even without being gay. I - again - promise you that women won't like you.

[–]Missing_Links 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

We already knew and have known for several years that long term gay male couplings had the highest average income, highest average education, and lowest average rates of abuse when looking at long term partnerships along only gender and sexuality lines. Doesn't seem to have affected the image of women in America. It's not going to do anything different now that we can get married.

Hell, even the fact that lesbian couplings have the highest rates of abuse among any demograpchic division hasn't impacted the image of women. Things aren't changing, they're staying the same in droves!

I know some gay couples. Two very well. And I tell you, I would LOVE to have a relationship like that. I'm married, but I could never be THAT intimate and close to my wife. I actually would LOVE to be gay, but I'm hetero. Damnit ^

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like a real first world struggle. If only I could choose to be gay ......

[–]Professor_Yaffle 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe you should try to pray the gay...uh ... towards? Maybe 'inside' would be more appropriate.

I cannot wait to see, 10 or 15 years down the road, when we have compiled divorce statistics for heterosexual couples, male couples, and female couples.

Anyone care to venture a hypothesis?

RemindMe! 15 years "Are women already against gays?"

“Just looking at my married friends and how day by day they become more and more emaciated [emasculated?] makes me think that I’m lucky to be single.” (25, Creative Arts)

“Hearing about the cruel way that some wives treat their husbands turns me pale with fear.”(25, Creative Arts)

“Handing over all of your earnings to the household and being given ‘pocket money’ by the wife leaves me muttering ‘You’ve got to be kidding!’ under my breath.” (28, Medical care, welfare-service).

“All your hard earnings, in the blink of an eye, disappear into the oblivion that is the housekeeping!” (24, Medical care, welfare-service)

“My paycheck is too low to support a family. ” (27, Machinery)

“I like my own space and I can see that if I were to get married I’d lose a lot of my free time” (45, Other)

“From impressions alone, marriage means throwing your hobbies out the window.” (25, Machinery).

“I can cook better than most housewives and I’m not afraid of housework either. I’m also pretty good at my job. Bringing someone into what is essentially a more or less perfect lifestyle is simply unnecessary.” (56, I.T)

“To me, married men just don’t look happy, and the more time passes the more this look of unhappiness becomes apparent.” (36, Finance).

Tl; dr - modern women bring nothing positive to the table, only drawbacks. Some men would like to marry but can't afford the expectations/lifestyles of modern women.

This would seem to put to rest the idea that the marriage crisis in Japan is unrelated to MGTOW and is caused solely by economic/cultural factors. These complaints sound exactly like those of Western MGTOWs.

Damn at least they have actual statements from you know the men who are active in this. I haven't seen one story about this in the west that doesn't just talk to women. Are the scared they will get this answer and can't hide what they see in the mirror? The issue now is how widespread is this sentiment in the west? Since I'm around people my age(18-24) I see a mixed bag of being pussified already in some people and in others staying with themselves. I think my generation +/- 5 years will be the first to have a noticeable dip once we're in our 30's.

Why are there so many articles about this?! Who cares if men don't marry. Women keep telling men, "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle". Well the bicycle has gone riding on its own. Why is the fish crying about it?

[–]SlashSero 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I too would like to think marriage is irrelevant, but for the future of the country it is very relevant. Stable, monogamous relationships are the basis for stable households thus physically and mentally healthy children. The abolishment of the classic household, the increase in single parenting ( and mental problems in children ) and promiscuity are tell-tale signs for societal degradation. These phenomena can be identified as root issues in areas with high criminal rate and low quality of life.

MGTOW for the win !

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Once we can make sex virtual and be a good substitute for the real thing, women might in be for a bad surprise. At least those women, that bring NOTHING to the table but their looks.

[–]Bwhitty23 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't wait till then. Do this now because if you snuff this out before that point then the ball may get rolling sooner. Who am I kidding there are enough thirst men out there to keep the market inflated for eternity.

Japan is a special case. The cost of living is insanely high, workers are expected to be on the job for 12 or more hours a day, and it is almost impossible for a woman with even one child to stay employed. On top of that adult children are expected to support their parents, most often while living with them in a very small space. Japan has profoundly failed at work life balance while relying on working age adults to solely support an ever increasing older population of family members. It is not surprising that they have a drastically declining population. Marriage and family is just too much money and too much additional work for an already severely stressed demographic group. Long term, this is neither good for the country or good for families.

[–]_skipp_ 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The men quoted in the article sound exactly like Western MGTOW when asked their opinions about why they don't want to marry.

They don't want to become "emasculated," they fear losing money and assets to their wives, they're frightened of "cruel" spouses, they don't want to have to give up their hobbies and friends, they claim that modern women bring nothing to the table, etc. etc. Seems like Japan is just a little ahead of the curve due to additional stresses brought about by the factors you mention.

[–]firstpitchthrow 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

  • 1. The economics of what is happening in Japan are pretty simple to figure out. Child-birth is dropping, and the population is aging, which is escalating all of these social problems that are already there.

[–]Bwhitty23 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So like the US and europe if FF by 5x?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Japan is not a special case, it sounds just like San Francisco.

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Long term, a shrinking population is actually quite good.

I wouldn't believe everything you hear about women in Japan.

”Married Men Don’t Look Happy!”

Probably because they're married.
