It's actually quite common for male teachers in this situation to get no jail time and no sex offender registration as well. In Texas, for example, which has the highest incidence of teacher-student sex in the nation:

ABC-13 examined nearly 50 cases since 2008 of teachers having sex with students in school districts across the Houston region. Some had sex with younger students in middle school. Others had kids with students. Many shared naked photos with students in the run-up to the relationship.

The investigation found that jail time for teacher sex is not the norm.

Sixty percent of teachers charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student in Harris County since 2008 received a deal called deferred adjudication, a deal that amounts, essentially, to probation. That's even when those teachers are found having sex with students 16 and younger, which can bring a sexual assault charge.

The teacher has to give up their teaching certificate and plead guilty.

But they will rarely see a day in prison -- and their name will never be on a sex offender registry.

And contrary to conventional wisdom that female teachers get lighter sentences than their male counterparts when found having sex with students, records show that female teachers do not routinely get lighter sentences.

You can point to individual cases where male teachers did get long sentences, but I can also point to many more cases where they didn't, or that recent case of a female teacher who got 22 years for sex with 17 year olds.

The fact is that this is simply ONE anecdotal case of a women not getting jail over sleeping with a 17 year old student when male teachers also escape jail for sleeping with 17 year old students. This doesn't show any actual overall discrepancy in sentencing, it's just an anecdote.

Maybe in that one town, but overall? I try and keep up with these cases. In the past few days 3 women have gotten probation for sex with 17 year old students, two have gotten a roughly a year in jail for sex with a 14 year old boy, and one got 6 months for sex with her mentally challenged 17 year old student.

The ones who were sentenced to 1 year for molesting 14 year olds had a minimum mandatory 10 year sentence the judge just decided to suspend for nine years. Keep in mind this was a 50 year old woman. In a similar case where. 20 year old man was facing the same mandatory sentence for sex with a 14 year old girl he got only 7 years suspended and had to serve 3. I'd challenge you to find a man who had sex with a 14 year old girl who gets only a year in jail. I'd imagine it's all but unheard of. Yet for women, that's the norm.
