Yes! I had the exact same thought when I was reading this article. Not a single mention of a women with a child, even though there seems to be a story popping up every couple days of some lady fuckin with some kid. But I guess they aren't pedophiles since everyone thinks "the boy is getting lucky." It appears that only males are able to commit crimes. I am happy this program is making progress and is able to help people overcome their problems. More places should offer this. Including to women.

I seem to recall Karen Straughan saying that 60% of male rapists were sexually abused by women as children. However, I was unable to find a source. If true, the denial of female pedophilia also has a harmful effect on women. It's an interesting example of how feminists (and society generally) seem to be more concerned with demonizing men than solving issues that affect both sexes. Domestic violence is another obvious example, since children who are abused often grow up to become abusers, perpetuating the cycle.

You're correct, but that's a dangerous/difficult argument to make these days. Everyone assumes that if you point out that being sexually attracted to a post-pubescent (but still underage) youth is not pedophilia, you're just denying or making excuses for your own pedophilia.

A grown adult being sexually attracted to a 16 year old, for example, is not pedophilia. It's statutory rape if they act on that attraction because they're a minor and cannot legally consent to sex, but it is not itself pedophilia. Pedophilia is specifically being attracted to prepubescent characteristics, or in other words being sexually attracted to those who are not sexually mature. A grown man jacking it over pictures of a 9 year old girl is pedophilia. Thinking a physically mature 16 year old schoolgirl is sexually attractive is not, although your ass is still going to be in hot water if you say so non-anonymously.

Plus, whether it's statutory rape or not depends on the jurisdiction, whereas pedophilia is a classification which isn't dependent on where it occurs.

I can't remember the exact quote, but there is something out there about a group of psychiatrists who declined to classify hebephilia and ephebophilia (I think I have those right) as a mental disorder, like pedophilia is, on the basis that just because something is illegal, doesn't make it the product of a disfunctional mind, and such an attraction was likely functional in our ancestor's societies.

Except 16 is legal in most of the first world. Just not in Hollywood where movies are made, which is why there is this view it is 18 when 16 is legal. For extra shits and giggles, 16/17 is still legally a child (at least in the US). Meaning that having sex with a child is legal (for only the ~10% oldest kids around, but no need to mention that last bit).

Yeah, I also had mixed feelings about this article. I was really happy because its very progressive to offer this kind of help to paedophiles, but women need help as well. This ad will only cause them to feel even more alienated.

Aside from the sexism of this, this is extremely progressive. Paedophiles do exist, and they're much better off receiving treatment than they are being isolated.

How would we know? Is this even legal to study?

[–]dangerousopinions 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because the alternative is to do nothing and only step in once they've abused a child. Pretty much any proactive approach that isn't extreme would be better than that. In this case the worst possibility is that they offend at exactly the same rate they are currently. It's highly unlikely that offering therapy would in any way increase the incidence of abuse.

I spend time in a particularly popular erotic RP chatsite. I swear all of the people wanting to play out loli fantasies all go to the Lesbian room to get their kicks. Across all of the other themed rooms I visit there aren't nearly as many loli characters.
