Yes, under the law a man can do this. I don't know about the "no questions asked" part though, I suspect they'd be pretty curious about why a man is doing this instead of a woman, where the mother is, and whether this is a man trying to get rid of his girlfriend's child without permission.

In the future you might want to make it more clear that you're talking about a hypothetical situation, btw.

You are thinking of safe haven laws. You need to read the Safe Haven laws of the state you wish to do this in. If the genders were reveresed the mother would have to follow the same laws. Most safe haven laws must be done within a certain amount of time after birth. I think a 7 day old would qualify under most or all state's safe haven laws. But once a parent is the sole parent, like in the event of death to the other parent, the remaining parent could just go through the regular adoption process.

All states I know of say it must be a parent who drops off the baby at a safe haven location. Although they would most likely never know, but technically it would be illegal for your mistress to do it.

Pretty sure you could place the baby at one of those places. I would say first talk with some people and think it over. It's an action you can't take back and this is your blood. I'm very sorry to hear about this happening to your wife. I think having this occur and a new baby that you need to seek a professional counselor.
