I wonder how carefully they are going to have to play this sentencing.

The only way to really do so would be to sentence them both for the exact amount of time. To give the woman a more lenient sentence would be an outright travesty and would further solidify how much women are treated like children.

On the other hand if you sentence a homosexual for a longer prison term it would show, once again, that every man is disposable in America/UK.
