Statistics Canada data indicates 1,750 indigenous men and 745 indigenous women were murdered between 1980 and 2012.

2.3x more men than women are killed.

Isn't it also true that when indigenous people are killed in Canada, it's usually by other indigenous people?

Typical liberal non-indigenous Canadians are being doubly-guilted into prioritizing this issue, when it's not our issue.

Once indigenous people decide whether to be normal Canadians like every other Canadian (of any other colour or ancestory or culture), or foreigners like every other foreigner, then we can start talking about whether Canada is to blame for anything.

But I will not support the rights of any "special" Canadians who are exempt from our laws.

I think this is an incredible article. As someone who is interested in men's issues as well as indigenous issues this whole missing indigenous women thing has really not sat well with me. I feel this is a really balanced, and tactful article which is effective at bringing the conversation about men forward. However, as always it seems, there is a token "but it's different for women". Which is unfortunate.

“For women, it’s 360 degrees – wherever they go, they’re vulnerable to being victimized. In their homes or in their communities or if they move to the city, they’re met with just as much violence,” she said. “With men, it’s different. A lot of it is nativeon-native crime. There are a lot of gangs, especially in the western provinces.”

The article literally just spoke about how they have problems which come from the same roots, and how 70% of perpetrators against indigenous women are also Indigenous. Also, this whole article talks about the issues and violence indigenous people face everywhere, and then this quote once again focuses back on the women.

There was a round-table or something on this a month or so ago whereby feminist/DV pressure groups had demanded discussions with politicians. They were pissed off that nothing much came of it so far.

The side highlighting the plight of the indigenous men wasn't even at the table.
