Blogger mocks politician for saying it's harder to get a vasectomy than an abortion. Can you imagine the outcry if a woman had to get her husband's permission to get an abortion?

Obama care in america requires healthcare insurers to cover the cost of every single type of female birth control that exists, with the sole exception of abortion. Insurers are not required to provide men with any form of birth control at all. Not even vasectomies. They are required to pay for tubal ligation, which is the female equivalent of a vasectomy. It is notable that vasectomy is less expensive than a tubal ligation.

The article was cringe worthy for a couple of reasons:

1) The female lawmaker complains about the law that would add a two day wait period to abortions: "Why don’t we put these same standards on a man who wants to have a vasectomy?"

Meanwhile the State of Tennessee has a 30 day wait period for any procedure that involves permanent sterilization including vasectomies. /facepalm

2) Adding a 2 day wait period for abortions is a bad idea because unlike sterilization, in abortions time is of the essence.

I had a doctor that wanted my parents permission... I was 26 and under my own insurance. It took me 5 years, 7 doctors, and an eventual trip to another state to get my vasectomy.

My insurance did cover it 100%.

Can I get a source of which states require the permission of the wife to get a vasectomy? A quick Google search tells me there is no such law, but that specific clinics have policies which may ask those kind of questions.

Where I live, if you're married, you must get your wife's permission to have a vasectomy, it's LAW. Now, I'd like you to guess whether the reverse is true of ligations or abortions...
