Dumbest? I don’t know; it’s the circular logic of it all. If women are in a worse place, it’s because of the patriarchy. If men are in a worse place, it’s because of the patriarchy. Well, if some men are worse off, then right then and there, we’re not using the correct terminology. Then, we start to go into world history in an attempt to find better terminology. There, we run across castrated slaves, men slaughtered in war; we talk about Rome and ignore the lower classes. We don't talk about why Genghis Khan has his genetics spread across the planet.

It’s not something you can question.

What bugs me, more than anything, is that we are more concerned with what twelve women are doing with their daughters in some Sub-Saharan African tribe, misrepresenting the practice as the worst possible variation; while back home, we pretend doing the same thing in a sterile environment with our boys isn’t just kosher (pun intended), it’s actually something the institutions of this nation approve of.

I'm not even going into the double-standards of behavior policing (both inter- and intra- gender, i.e. women's scholarships even when women are more represented, focus on women's achievement even when women are represented at a greater level; i.e. if an ugly guy talks to you on the street he's a creep, if an attractive guy does, he just made your day. Men not being able to engage in certain behavior or dress for fear of being stereotyped as "scary." Communication seems to have been severed completely in favor of something else -- privilege?).

Yes, those disabled war vets are truly Patriarchs; so are the homeless men, the addicts who lost their minds in stress. Oh, how they lord over those upper-middle class white women in their boots, their jackets, and their oppressed coach purses.

The height of bookshelves in an office.

I had a professor complain to me that the bookshelves in her office (which were built into the wall) were an example of patriarchal oppression because they were designed for men who tend to be taller. She was under 5 feet tall.

A classmate of mine claimed she was systematically oppressed as a woman by the patriarchy. My classmate at a top 30 law school. Yes, you're so oppressed that women make up 50% of our class. You're so oppressed that half of your professors are women. Yes you're so oppressed that you already have a job lined up in the field of law of your choice.

Funny as well is that she chose to work in public interest because that's what she's interested in. She doesn't realize the irony when she complains about the earnings gap when her male classmates are working their asses off to get spots with big firms that pay 3-4 times as much as she will make.

I think the entire concept is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. From the first time I heard of the concept to the present day I have yet to see even one smidgen of evidence to suggest a patriarchy exists anywhere in the developed world.
