I have a few feminist friends, and we often have discussions about gender equality. They know that I am not sexist and can back up my ideals as an MRA, and they often ask my why I don't identify with modern feminism. From their perspective they can't understand why anyone would dislike feminism if they stood for equality. As they say "feminism is about equality for everyone." This is the analogy I use to describe to why some men might be hostel to modern feminism. Do realize that I do try to make this more palatable to them so they don't compleatly shut it out. So, it has a little pandering.

Equality is an equation it has to be balanced on both sides to be true. At the begin of the women's rights movement the equation looked like this.

Men (15/3)=2 Women

This equation in unbalanced, opportunities were not equal, and there were real ceilings on what women could do. 1st wave feminism accomplished many of it's goals and today opportunities are equal. Making the equation look more like this.

Men (15/3)=5 Women

The problem now is that modern feminism is still only wanting to work one side of equation for equality. Modern feminism might say something like "Woah, look. Men have a 15 on their side of the equation. That's way bigger than our five, we need a 15 too to be equal. And we get this.

Men (15/3)=(15*5) Women

Now, some men may say: "wait, we had a 3 dividing that 15 so we were actually equal before. Where Modern Feminism might say "that's not division, that's just inverse multiplication. In fact we need a three too to be equal". And thus.

Men (15/3)=3(15*5) Women

Now some Feminist mathematical scholars come to the conclusion that men's side of the equation is actually (15/3)+(20*0), and that + 20 is an invisible privilege to them. and women need the + 20 as well to be equal. So we get.

Men (15/3)=3(15*5)+20 Women

This can go on and on. But the point is in modern society where we are equal, just in different ways, striving for equality through only adding to one gender's rights won't work. The reason for the MRM is to make sure that things are added to both sides of the equation. For example, if you only address the fact that there are more men in S.T.E.M fields, without addressing the fact that men make up 90% of workplace deaths, you force men out of high end jobs and into deadly ones. Only changing one side of the equation is what modern Feminism does and without a responding movement on the other side, men are feeling more and more disenfranchised.
