I'm sorry, and forced circumcision is not a joking matter, but I couldn't help but think that these are Harry Potter characters.

The circumcision of the child was agreed to by both parents, but when it came time to schedule the procedure, the mother resisted, having researched the subject further.

Good for her. I really think it's interesting how much of the anti-circumcision support comes from mothers... women seem to find it easier to understand that it's wrong to cut off parts of a newborn baby. There are a lot of dads who don't give a crap about the moral issues, and just insist on tradition. The whole "I want my son to look like me" mentality... if you lost a leg, would you cut off your son's leg? It makes no sense to me.

Well, fuck. I'm not sure whether to blame the judges though, the law simply may be written in a way that guarantees a father the right to mutilate his son's penis.

WHY DOES HIS AGE MATTER. Literally the only possible reason is a mindset of "if he doesn't remember it, then it's OK" which would neeevvvveeerrrr be considered for any other violation of someone's body. "Yes your honor, I hit the victim in the head with a shovel, but he was in a coma and awoke fully healed, so he has no painful memories of the event, therefore no crime was really committed!"

I am curious about the legal argument used to convince the judge.

From mu limited Googling it seems while maybe not legally required it's expected to obtain both parents consent for a medical procedure before proceeding on something with long lasting effects.

Could a spiteful spouse just fuck over their child to attack the more caring parent, just by giving consent to undergo some procedure?

FYI: When I was growing up nobody talked about circumcision, later when I was over fourteen I was talking about the usual shit - British so nobody I knew was circumcized (people think I am jewish because of the GrammarNazi play on words...)

But for many years I could only find out information that said "circumcision is a small incision", well, it's not, the word itself says it's not. I thought they were making a 1cm cut into skin for some religious purposes (I was an idiotic 14 year old).

I think there are people actively trying to represent it as that.

People never really talk about the pressure from religious groups to keep circumcision as "just what happens", look at the graph of the growth of circumcision in the US - that stuff doesn't just happen, it was orchestrated.

Incentives, charging / getting funding for doing the procedure.

If random acts of surgery can randomly become normal without anything happening behind them then we should just give up.
