I was reading the OECD Better Life Index to do some comparisons between my country and other countries in the world and I noticed something really interesting and sad at the same time:

If you go to the Community session (http://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/topics/community/) and open the section of any country, you'll find the Gender Inequality indicator. This is how you can read the indicator:

  • If the country has a value equal to 1, it means that both men and women have equal opportunities in that country.
  • If the value is greater than 1 and the country is positioned on the left side of the chart, then men have more opportunities than women in the country.
  • If the value is greater than 1 and the country is positioned on the right side of the chart, then women have more opportunities than men in the country.

Guess what? Based on the OECD index, 7 countries have equal opportunities for both genders, men are favored in 9 countries and women are favored in 20 countries! Women are favored almost 3 times more than men based on this index.

Any thoughts on this?
