Dude, it's Game of Thrones. You can count the number of times fathers are nice to their kids on one hand.

Plain old topical humor. I find the harpies demanding the end of the holiday much more disconcerting.

Eh, pick your battles. Objecting to this is a bit dumb in my opinion. Game of Thrones has both good and bad role models aplenty, but keep in mind the whole story kicks off when Ned Stark is executed and his children rise up and start a rebellion over it, because they loved their father so much.

They should have shown Prince Oberyn... it doesn't show any interaction with his children in the show but it's clear he is a loving father of his "eight sand snakes". Plus he was a relevant and recent character this season.
