I started working with a BW recently and I noticed how differently she behaves with her BM friends and me (WM). It's not just using AAVE with them. She also acts more masculine. It almost seems like she's trying to be a man.

When she's around me, not only does she drop the AAVE but she turns on a switch to act more feminine. She speaks more softly, gives eye contact, doesn't try to talk over me.

Now I know this is obviously her code switching from black to white but why does code switching for BW mean acting masculine to acting feminine?
