I have been having a hell of a time with my wife. We have been together for 17 years, married for 13, and have two boys age 8 and 5 who are on the autism spectrum. My wife is a tough one to love sometimes. When she wants to be sweet, she can be. But for her, it is usually attached to strings. Our entire relationship has been a series of ups and downs like most, but this is the worst and most sustained down I have experienced. She is mainipulative, but refuses to acknowledge when she is. Recently I called her out on it and she went apeshit. Three days of non stop crying and a threat from her to end the marriage and an accusation of emotional abuse as a kicker. What you may have asked to cause this drama? Her desire to uproot all of our lives for a hobby. My wife has taken up horseback riding as a hobby to deal with her own claims of being sad, tired, and lonely. I have been supportive of her hobby as I really want her to be happy, but this is going too far. Recently, she has been strongarming over a desire to buy a more expensive house way out in the country on a pockmarked gravel road, shitty internet, and no real neighbors. It is nowhere close to either of our jobs, the support services our boys need, and has suspect public school options. The only thing it is close to is her barn where her barn friends are and our horse is boarded which is only a mile down the road. I grew up in the country which she didn't, so maybe I see a lot more downside than upside to a life off the grid. My problem is I think this is self-indulgent bullshit for someone who has some real issues with escapism. Not being able to handle the world, as it is and adjusting to it. Hobbies are important, life consuming hobbies ain't. We have gone round and round over this and she has accused me of being abusive because I got pissed off and told her that I think she is trying to emotionally blackmail me. I told her my concerns were for the boys, plus our marriage is nowhere near stable for us to make such a life altering move. I have recommended marriage counseling and she has begged off unless we move to this house. I tell you gents, I have taken for far too long the blame of being responsible for all her woes, he brunt of her tantrums, and to tell you the truth, I am exhausted. Today, I sit on the bubble. Do I stay or do I go? I don't know the answer and am filled with a truckload of self doubt. Just looking to vent....
