I (40m) am getting a divorce after my wife (39f) of 19 months filed. Following the pre-decree hearing the judge awarded her alimony for 3 months and I have to pay her moving expenses. We had no joint accounts or joint debt together. I have ~100k of debt (due mostly to new 75k vehicle) and most of CC debt due to purchases for her. I have no issue keeping the debt myself. However, the judge made temporary judgement giving her my dog. I don’t care about anything from this marriage except for him. We have no kids and we got him during our marriage.

What I need advice on is initially I wasn’t asking for a division of the debt to be paid although we have no joint debt together. The judge granted her my dog based on the fact that since we acquired the dog during our marriage that it is considered marital property even though I paid for the adoption fees, veterinarian fees, food, etc. from my individual account (also I’m military and the judge said due to unpredictability of deployments I could not provide stability for my dog - which seems to make sense if they were a child, not a dog or property as the judge stated) for the final hearing prior to final divorce decree filing I am going to petition that my wife take half of the debt I incurred during our marriage which is roughly $50k and that I would be willing to not ask for that if she gives me my dog. So essentially it’s gonna cost her 50k if she wants to keep my dog. Good idea or bad idea? Looking at any all options and any advice feedback is greatly appreciated!

Add - I’m in Hawaii. I currently don’t have a lawyer as this was pretty a pretty straight forward divorce with no kids and no joint accounts/debt. But she took my dog, at least in the short-term, based on half-truths she told the judge,and I’ll do whatever I need to to get him back.
