Ex and I have been separated for two years now, just getting into the heart of division of assets. We tried and mediation and while it didn't completely work, we were able to get down to a number for division of assets which we were on the same page about, pending the appraisal of the martial home (which I left). Got the appraisal, I plugged in the number, and I thought we were good to go.

Didn't hear back from her for half a year. Her lawyer came back to my lawyer with a number that was over 50K what we had agreed upon earlier. She isn't claiming anything else, just decided that she wanted more I suppose. Spoke with my lawyer and he said they don't need to provide any backing evidence in this phase which seems odd to me.

My question is this: Do I come back with the number we agreed upon or low-ball her high ball offer? Problem is, the opposite of her high ball offer is zero. I don't think I can come back with that number, lol. It's just crazy to me that something that should be so concrete can be negotiable.

I'm going to speak to my lawyer about this and take it in front of a judge if necessary. Just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through this before.
