Although I’m not in the midst of it yet. I was told by an attorney to document all your time with the kids. I use a diary app called Daybook. You can document from your phone and access it from a pc. If you need you can export and print it. Also allows you to add photos.

My wife has said in the past she wasn’t going to share custody. Any evidence you can build in your favor would help.

Yep. Right here. She wanted me to be a weekend dad. I wanted an even split. I compromised for the sake of an amicable divorce. So there's 1 day difference every 2 weeks, with equal time in a few years. Worst decision of my life. It propagates into EVERYTHING else. School choices, taxes, daycare, and don't get me started on child support. It makes her "custodial parent" by default. Which if anyone ever tells you it doesn't matter who it is, it just has to be someone, that's a bold-faced lie. As soon as she learned she could get an uneven deal in her favor, she has fought and wheedled over every damned thing. It's been three years and I'm still dealing with this. The IRS has no concept of split households. Even if I have a parenting plan stating that she agrees I get to claim him as a dependent every other year, the IRS automatically rejects it. I don't ever get to claim daycare expenses because of that one day. That was $700 in taxes the year before kindergarten. And we fought over where he should go to school. I argued he should stay in his preschools school district as he was already enrolled and I certainly didn't agree to change it. Nope, judge didn't care, and I got stripped of my rights as a father.

Sadly, it depends on the state. In Colorado you are legally guarenteed an even split. And that doesn't mean jack shit because the world isn't fair and the legal system is nowhere near a justice system. Look up the laws, they're typically online. Get a lawyer, and then never trust them to do their job because they likely won't. It's an absolute battle and you're losing by default. It sucks. But never compromise and never think any good act will go unpunished. Good luck.

You have to fight to get 50 50 especially if your dad. Fight and brush up on laws in ur state. Attorneys help you navigate the system, they dont decide what's right for you.

I got the typical plan (every-other-weekend, Wed. evenings), but fortunately things weren't completely contentious and the way it worked out the ex let me see them a lot more than that.

It is a damned dark tunnel you are looking down, but hopefully you can come out the other side intact.
