I'm thinking about doing an estate sale. Both the matrimonial and elder-law attorneys know the estate sale people. I'm thinking that I should just make a list of the shit I will need, go to the estate sale people and tell them I'll take it all and move it out myself any time they have a house full of shit going on the market.

The problem with attaching value to your personal belongings is that they have no value. Sure, your clothes are yours and your jewelry or a watch, maybe a few pieces of art, maybe some other things might have some value - but for the most part your shit has about as much value as it would cost to move it out of your house and clean up the area it was sitting in.

My house is largely filled with things passed on from deceased relatives of my wife's, so I see no point in fighting for something that has no monetary value and has no sentimental value. But I don't want to go out and buy all new furniture.

I'm figuring that an estate sale might be a good interim step.

Anybody ever do this?
