Hi all,

I’m filling out my CIS and based on the format it’s clear that, typically, it’s expected that separation proceeds divorce actions.

My state does not recognize legal separation. In its stead, a formal separation agreement can be made between parties.

My lawyer mentioned this when we last met. Of course, it’s another layer of negotiation.

I’m wondering if any of you in NJ or states with similar coding have done this. I will not move out without this document in place, but I’m looking for experiences in having used it. I.e. was it thorough enough protection from establishing a shitty status quo? Was it essentially divorce jr.? Were you able to start actualizing life 2.0 once you separated? Any regrets or warnings?

Also, since this will likely come up... I’m not interested in anything to do with dating while separated, I’m doing strict recovery work to make sure I heal from all past relationships before I even think of other women. That will probably be the case for a very long time.
