No easy way! Interview, interview, interview. Narrow down choices then select from the attorneys who will meet with you again for no charge to discuss your follow up questions.

Then make a choice.

It a process but worth all the work!

Get a list of questions...Throw a few curveballs just to see if they know the law...

State bar is good, also some employers have employee benefits that provide legal referrals (discounted hourly rates), and sometimes free consultations. If you know of people that have been divorced, ask them. Also, another good way is to go to your local courthouse and see some lawyers in action (pick one that suits your style)...

Read the sidebar - there are no good divorce lawyers. This is doubly true if you are 1) male, or 2) not wealthy.

Referrals will point you to the same bunch of lawyers you can find with a Google search or the yellow pages. Call and talk to them. If finances are a concern, talk about expectations (they won't really promise anything). If your wife is on the same page about separating, try for mediation.
