Law School?

I regret not going to law school. I had a scholarship for a Jesuit University that had "Pre-law" as an undergraduate degree. So long as you maintained a 3.5 GPA you automatically got accepted into their law program and could start taking entry level JD classes your Senior year. I decided to go to a DII school and play baseball instead.

Yeah, I have known a few people that went to law school as the result of their splits... TBH the ones that passed the bar and represented themselfs in family law court never did that well in their own cases.

I’m a lawyer and I wouldn’t recommend anyone go to law school to represent themselves. and it’s a crap shoot if you will get a high paying job. And you’ll still have to pay your kids support during school and study. $200k easy just to get through school.

So no. Just keep on working on bettering yourself and finding a better way to provide for yourself and your kids.

My two cents: engineering could be a much better use of your time and has limited startup fees. I spent maybe 70k total for my engineering undergrad at a top-10 public school. 15 years in and I make waaay more than most lawyers and I work from home, too. A lot of the technical analysis skills do transfer (most of my work is writing technical interpretations of laws/Codes).

I have been waging absolute war as a pro se in family court. I must have worn out my wife's attorney because she just hired a new one. I can't say that I don't sorta enjoy leveraging caselaw and reading the laws and just spitting it back at them. While I haven't "won" so far, I am not really losing either... I have custody of my daughter and the only "aggression" the other side has had for filings was for attorney's fees which they look set to lose.

I joke with some of my friends that maybe I should have been an attorney. Then I remember how just downright angry this lawsuit has made me. Not a single day goes by that I don't think about it for a good bit of the day. It's likely affecting my health as I am the thinnest I have been in 10yr. I couldn't imagine doing this for a client and emotionally investing like this. Not to mention also some of the biggest unethical, cruel and scammers I have interacted with recently are attorneys...

Law may seem lucreative, but unless you intend to be some sort of superstar in the field, I'd say apply yourself to something else.
