Based out of Washington State for the last 8 years and married for 10. Been contemplating divorce for majority of those 10 years and have lived an overall miserable life personally. I won't go too much into the details as there is far too much ground to cover there.

Ended up with an infant that is now turning almost 9 months old. My wife is not living with me and is abroad (outside US) with my son at the moment. Now that we have an infant, I am increasingly convinced it will be a harsh environment to grow up with parents that are fundamentally resentful of each other.

Do men stand any chance at all in becoming the primary custodian for an 9 month (or <1 year old) baby? Or courts always rule in favor of women? I am at my professional peak while she has worked for less than 2 years of the last 10. I am also in excellent health while she has several chronic conditions. We both love our little trouble maker, but she is overall a very difficult person with very strong infallible opinions coupled with very poor judgement, also an important reason why I am considering a divorce. Anyone with any experience in custody battles in Washington state can perhaps give me some advice?

The other question is, if she is living abroad with my son, would that delay the divorce proceedings by a lot? Anyone else been in a similar situation?

Lastly, While the thought that I should file for divorce has lingered for the entire duration of the marriage, looking back I think I was gutless to not take that step sooner. But now that I am in my mid 40s, I also continue to ponder if this is the best thing for my son and if I should just suck-it-up and continue to be the provider for the family and accept living with a resentful partner. Has anyone been in a similar situation before? How did you deal with it?
