There are a lot of things to cover here so I’ll try to hit some of the bigger points. My ex decided to leave when my kids were 3 and 1. It sucked BUT being they were both in some form of day care, it just worked out that I got “more time” based on transportation. I got lucky there. My kids are 12 and 15 now and I can say the “50/50” thing is a real gray area. Both kids are really involved in sports and I’m involved with them wherever I can be. Volunteering, serving on boards, etc. it keeps me in their world when it’s not my time. I never try to step on her time and vice versa. It’s not perfect but my kids know I’m always there for them (wait until you start dating, it’s amazing how many women will LOVE that you’re such a great dad then eventually resent that “you’re too involved” with your kids and helping your ex out, but that road is probably a little ways off). 50/50 doesn’t work as good as most people think. At a certain point kids need a home base. I’d say move as close as you can stand and let the kids decide where they want to live, or if they’re too young, let them go back and forth as they please.

yes it goes away. Same thing happened to me (5 years ago this august, left me on my birthday!) I got through it, it fucking sucked and I thought I was going to die. We have 50/50 (my kids mean everything to me) and my ex and I get along great now. I think back to when we were married and shudder. Time man, everything takes time (sorry i know thats not what you want to hear)

What state? Are you filed, did you move out, have either of you been served? How many kids, how old? How are the finances?
