I didn’t have a problem getting into a nice apartment after paying mortgage for ~9 years. That is as long as you have an income 3x rent.

Right there with you. Don’t know if you can go it alone but if you’re not sure go Airbnb or Furnished Finders to get something short term and give yourself some time to process and evaluate beforehand committing to a lease

I agree, after owning my own home outright for decades and losing it in the divorce, I have been less than thrilled about renting. Luckily, I was able to move in with a friend after the home sale. When that went south, another friend's dad who owned a four plex had an available unit. I jumped on it stat. But I'm annoyed at the amount of rent I'm paying without eventually owning something and because one of the other tenants has no respect for the rest of us. I want to move to another state soon. I'm not looking forward to dealing with the rental process.
