I have read on here some of the posts have talked about being surprised by their wife having divorce papers served. I was one of those men. My ex and I talked about divorce,(I didn’t want one) she even said we could do it our selves and get the paperwork, fill it out and file it with the court and not have to pay a lot of money to a lawyer. That all sounded good to me. Then one day I was working on my truck in the driveway and a sheriff’s deputy pulls in my driveway and asks if my name is xxxxx and hands me divorce papers when I say yes and says I was being served. I was shocked and surprised because I thought we were doing this not lawyers. She had talked to her mother and friends and lawyered up.

I want to tell you all this in hopes of saving someone some headaches. I already said I didn’t want a divorce and wanted to go to mediation, my ex heard something she didn’t like and walked out in the middle of it. I should have known because she cannot hear that she could be wrong. I wanted my ex to like me and realize what she was losing so I rolled over and gave her what she wanted in hopes she would change her mind which of course she didn’t. I even had family members tell me my ex and her mother were laughing at me and how easy it was to get things from me, I still wouldn’t stand up for myself. We were separated under one roof which was tough and I don’t recommend that unless there is no other way.

Don’t do what I did, stand up for yourself and fight for what is yours and is fair. Take care of yourself and your kids and start building your new future. Also, the court ordered all communications be in email because my ex was always saying something different from what she said prior, one of the best things that happened in my divorce. Your ex will fight dirty and pull out all the stops to get what she wants, you need to fight dirtier.

Stay strong, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not a train coming the other way.
