I took it as he was speaking about other people's perception, possibly even her own before he transitioned. A little more context would really make or break this joke: is he just being cisphobic, or self reflective, and philosophical?

I think it is a good joke.

When she lived as a woman, she received the full love and support that society lavishes on women. She was treated as a person with intrinsic value.

Then, as a man, he felt the isolation that comes from knowing society does not give one molecular shit about the well-being of a man. He is treated as a utility that has to create value before they will be treated as a human being.

Many women who have transitioned to being men have found their treatment by society as men to be soul crushing and psychologically damaging.

Yeah I’m a trans man who was a queer woman before (not sure of my sexuality entirely at that point) and I’m a trans man now. It’s hard because you feel like you have no support either within or outside of your own community

I'm a straight man who sat on his couch drinking water with his 7 month old son sleeping in his arms when I saw this. It's comedy. Comedy is allowed to be offensive.

Now I have to go comfort and clean my son up because I accidentally spat the water at him because I laughed so hard. He's the only one who has any right to be offended by this joke. And he's sure as shit offended.
