I mean it could be a factor, but it seems a very reductive perspective. There are millions of young men who grew up in single-parent households and turned out just well or even excellent. There are men who had great fathers and turned out rotten. It's definitely a factor, but I don't think the whole manosphere could be explain just by a lack of good 'male models.'

Besides broken homes, we also need to consider that:

The West is becoming deeply unequal in economical terms and there simply are not enough secure, dignified and well-paying jobs
Women, for the first time in the recorded history, can live decent, satisfying lives without men (they are better educated, hence get better jobs, there no longer is strong societal pressure to marry, etc.)
Internet and specifically social media create echo chambers that are very difficult to exit
The media, including everything from films to shitty reality shows to pop music, only ever depicts the lives of rich, independent people, giving rise to a lot of resentment, envy and self-doubt.

I'm sure there are more factors that could be added to this. But my point is we live in a deeply unfair, shitty world and that's why so many people (men and women) fall for crooks and hacks.

In his book The Way of Men Jack Donovan talks about how men without a father or positive male role model in their lives historically have resorted to gangs, fraternities and other forms of masculine tribalism and hierarchies in order to gain acceptance from male peers and find their place in the world. I think nowadays with more and more people occupying cyberspace, the gangs and fraternities have been substituted with Call of Duty/World of Warcraft clans and online communities and forums.

Red pill ideas have always been floating around and pushed, it just wasn't called red pill before. All the gurus have done is repackaged it in an easy to swallow format. My older brother was the local "red pill" guru back in the 1990s. Guys used to ask him how he slayed so much and what he told that wasn't much different than modern redpill.

I believe this to be true. I was never too deep into the red pill thing, but have consumed a lot the content as I like to take in a lot of information, and also in search of positive examples of masculinity for myself. I know this is related to my lack of male nurturing or guidance. Even for some that had male figures in the household, they too probably lacked that true parenting they needed to navigate this world.

Trying to navigate the world is what I think leads people to the red pill — one heartbreak, your crush starting an onlyfans, jealousy of other men, etc is all it takes to get one in.

Here come these guys (especially when you are young and impressionable) that have everything you think you want, all the women, all the answers, and status, telling you how you they got there and how you can get it too. It can start with the simplest of things, simply googling “how to get her to text me back”, “why is she playing hot and cold”, “how to get out of the friend zone”. These are the guys that are coming up for the most part (some traditional dating coaches but that is more targeted to the female audience).

Many now also incorporate fitness and financial advice as a sort of holistic personal development coach.

I have to give them credit, they are serving a market that has been underserved. Divorce is high and kids usually live with the mother, pastors may have been the go to in the past but church attendance is the decline. A good work mentor could work but many get in young (also can’t afford a life coach or anything like that.

Just my thoughts, I think there is a correlation. But there also could be one with misogynistic parents, maybe even overly liberal parents (seeking the opposite if the lifestyle has not brung good to their life).

I posted a video that touched on this last week. In general, when people seek out a role model for a specific thing, it is because they do not have one in their life already. For guys, this has become increasingly so over the last 100 years (or at least it seems). There are a lot of guys reaching their 20s without a strong male role model and end up wondering "what does it mean to be a man?"

Imagine you are 23, have never had a strong male role model, are socially awkward, have little to no experience with women, and have no idea what to do with your life. Then you see a couple guys claiming to have all the answers to all the problems you have, combined with some marketing gimmicks, and it is easy to see why some guys get sucked down the rabbit hole by the fake "gurus".

It is the same reason that rule #6 is so popular (but I would not classify him as a "fake guru").
