Yes, lots of people make them work and some people make them work really well.

It CAN work if you are willing to put in a ton of effort in terms of communication. We let each other live our lives, but have gotten into a routine of a short nightly FaceTime just to connect about our day and touch bases, and try to schedule longer “dates” where we watch movies or play video games on a call. Jealousy is extra detrimental to a long-distance relationship, because a fundamental part of being happy with a long-distance partner is accepting that you are both independent people who have to make their own social groups/lives outside of the relationship in order to be happy in your own location.

Source: moved about 8 hours away (and in a different country) from my partner after a little under a year together, and we’re both busy grad students. We see each other for about 4 days every 1-2 months and are doing great so far, even though there are lonely days.

I can work but it’s about trust honesty and very good communication. Also you need to make a plan, at some point someone will have to move for the other person if it gets serious. Your relationship is new so no worries about that right now.

Your only an hour away, which is not bad. No your not being needy, it’s understandable that you want see your partner in person. I am like that too I can only text for so long then I get bored. I did long distance. before. You said she comes to you, maybe make a plan for you to see her.

Have a conversation to try to work out a plan depending on your schedule. Make plans for dates places and things you would like to see and do it will give you sometime to look forward to , and stick to them unless it’s an emergency or work schedule.

Set up up FaceTime dates if you can’t see each other, if you for example are both home at certain time each cook a meal and eat together over zoom, get dressed up for each other, spice it up lol then when you do see each other well …. That’s all I will say 😉
