Just like how "interactive medicine" that actually works is just called medicine, developmental theories of the human mind isn't called evolutionary psychology its just called psychology, necrology, anthropology and biology.

You have been sold a fake bill of goods of something that seems like a science and a prestigious field of study wen in reality most of the work that comes out of "evolutionary psychology" is a long form version of the appeal to nature fallacy.

It's popularity is maintained by subtle rhetoric tricks.

  1. EP proponents often defend their work by saying that you are rejecting the theory of evolution / denying evolution if you disagree. This ovbiously makes you look like a giant dumbass to everyone except for children, the illiterate or young earth creationists.

  2. Its relying on your and the general public's ignorance at o what actual modern evolutionary theory is. For you the layman, evolution is solely natural selection but evolutionists have known for centuries this isn't the case as there are other parts of it such as migration, "neutral traits", genetic hitchhiking and genetic drift.

Let me explain those last few things briefly.

  • "Neutral traits" traits that have randomly arrived and stick around despite having nothing to do with natural selection as they have no real impact on suitability. Think about whether your earlobes are attached or not or if you have dimples or not.

  • Genetic hitchhiking. Parts of an allele or full alles that just happen to be nearest to naturally selected alelles can be made just as popular despite in itself having nothing to do with increasing your fitness to the given environment.

  • Genetic drift: Sudden apocalyptic events can cause alles or entire species to suddenly die with little regard to natural selection forces. Think about the metoror that killed the dinosaurs.
