I’m confused. I’ve never seen a valid argument ‘against’ single mothers - I don’t even know what you mean by an argument ‘against’ single mothers. And what do you mean by ‘a bunch of options and chose the wrong one?’ That seems like a gross oversimplication of a wide array of complicated situations.

Was the wrong choice the sex? Because the man is equally responsible for that. Takes two to tango.

Was the wrong choice the birth control, or lack thereof? Because the man is a) also capable of wearing a condom and b) sometimes birth control fails.

Was the wrong choice… becoming single? Would the better choice be to stay in an unhealthy or unhappy relationship? What if the man chose to leave the woman? What if the man dies? A woman becomes single for a hundred different reasons.

Ok, I'll bite: the position you are advocating, diabolically or otherwise, is fairly mindless and baseless, on several levels.

First: very few people set out with the goal of becoming a single parent. Most of those who do do that are older men or women with the resources to make it work and do not fit into this discussion (unless you're talking about late-thirtysomething professionals who make serious life decisions like this with their eyes open and are rarely the targets of impotent incel-adjacent anger). Most people either: have a relationship in good faith, which doesn't work out; or have an unintended pregnancy. I submit that neither of these latter two scenarios are worthy of castigation or contempt.

Can you even give a single cogent argument as to why having one's life goals not work out exactly as intended is grounds for ostracism? I don't think anyone who is a mature adult would try, because as you get older, you come to realise that life has a way of beating you down in ways you didn't see coming, no one makes it out alive and only a very lucky few will make it to middle age without some scars in that regard. This is not a matter of meritocracy, unless you hold some pretty extreme 4chan libertarian views. Analogies make this plain. Is someone inherently unworthy of love because they lose a job, or become ill, or make a bad investment in good faith? Again, if you are saying yes then it reflects rather poorly on you, and wiser people will see this very clearly. Should any unfortunate life events, for any gender and any person, be punished by systematic collective (decentralised) action, which is the thrust and focus of the RP position (on rejecting single mothers as partners)? Think about it for a moment; I trust and hope that your conscience will reveal to you how vile a thing to say that would be.

Now, as with all things in the real world, there are nuances. Should someone who is considering dating a single parent (any gender) be aware that the context of the relationship is going to be different, that their prospective partner will have another, higher, priority in their lives? Yes, they should. Is it reasonable for that to be a factor in their decision making? Yes, it is. For example, if a man - or woman, etc. - is looking for a 100% "ride or die" in his life, a partnership in which each puts the other first over anything else, is it reasonable to weigh the parental status of a prospective partner in choosing whom to date? I would say definitely yes.

BUT... that is not what the RP perspective is about or advocates. That's the strawman defensive position adopted to defend the indefensible core view that single mothers are somehow immoral and deserve castigation and punishment. The latter point of view is bitter, narrow minded, spiteful, petty, vindictive, and utterly bankrupt. Individuals expressing it do not, in any way, hold any type of moral or rational high ground; they are the deserving recipients of contempt and scorn in this story.

By all means, prove me wrong, refute my points, if you think you can - happy to engage on this important topic if you would like to.
