Most people are not giving you looks man, this is created by your experiences and traumas. For all those "looks" you get 95% of them are neutral and they will forget you 1 sec after that look. The rest is divided by people who like what they saw on you and that doesn't mean your physique, can be your face or style too. The other part are people who don't like you for no reason at all.

One thing that may free your mind: most people don't care about you, at all. They are all trying to work their own insecurities or being on their heads thinking about stuff.

You sound like you're projecting due to your past trauma, to be honest. Most people on the street/campus/whatever give exactly zero fucks about you and won't even register your presence.

i feel like the only way to end all of it is to become a bodybuilder (so theyre too intimidated to try to hurt me) so thats what im working on.

No, you should be working with a professional to address your self-esteem issues and misconceptions of other people. Bodybuilding won't help with this shit.

Try looking at them and thinking that might just be the way they smile, or they may be attracted to you.

Or maybe give a goofy smile if you think it’s for dominance.

And like the other posters here, I’ll add - see a therapist. I did cognitive behavioural therapy, and it reframed how I look at things so I don’t project, helped with my anxiety, and helped remove invasive negative thoughts.

I worked in a gym as a personal trainer for many years and observed a lot of people there for hours and hours. The vast majority of people don't care what is going on around them and do not care what you are doing. They are typically just focused on your workout and if they are smiling it's probably just being friendly. Also when you people are working out they get into the zone and might have an aggressive look, but it isn't directed towards you and they are not trying to exert their dominance in most cases. That being said, you do get the guys who try and show off to other dudes, or have a complex to where they try to act alpha in the gym. Typically though, this takes the form of guys lifting too much weight with bad form and they are very rarely overtly directed at another guy. Unless there's someone with a serious mental issue they aren't going to be staring you down. There's always the remote possibility that your gym could have a higher than usual concentration of douche gym bros so maybe there's some alpha posturing going on, but in the general population this is very rare, and as I said, people usually don't care.

I once had a guy semi threaten me after I asked if I could work in on a machine. Nothing ever happened but he would give me mean looks sometimes and it went on for months. I just ignored the guy. People like that have problems all around their lives and just have bad attitudes in general. I've learned to find humor in any sort of alpha posturing that goes on at the gym, because in reality it is very silly. You should laugh it off it you encounter it too. If there is anyone being weird at your gym just ignore them as well, or go find a more serious strength and conditioning gym or a power lifting gym. You'll probably get in better shape that way anyway and most people who go to serious gym are warm and encouraging to one another.

You probably are projecting some of your own anxiety onto people. Lots of people who are new to working out become VERY self conscious at first, which is why places like Planet Fitness exist. The truth is though, as I've said already, most people don't give a fuck what is going on around them. I suggest you turn your headphones on to your favorite songs and focus on the workout, you'll also be too busy to give a fuck about what is going on around you either.
