I wish I realized this sooner 🤦‍♀️ The amount of time I've wasted during my teens and 20s trying to help men better themselves is depressing. The worst was when I was 19 and met a 28 year old military vet who had PTSD, was "emotionally unavailable", and had thinly veiled hatred toward women because he had mommy issues. I would spend hours on the phone multiple days a week listening to him vent about problems in his life, yet he never had the patience to listen to me. I would also try to make sure he took his medications and constantly stroke his ego. In return, he constantly negged me and made me feel like crap. After over 2 years of enduring emotional abuse from him, he committed suicide, which made me spiral into a deep depression that caused me to waste the first half of my 20s because I was in love with him and blamed myself for not doing enough to save him from himself.

And sadly, this was not the last time I dealt with an unstable man. The next man I dated was narcissistic, abusive, and secretly a drug addict.

I honestly thought if I loved these men enough and was kind enough that they would improve, appreciate me, and we would live happily ever after 🤡

Lesson learned: Stay away from emotionally unstable and insecure men! If you stay involved with them they will cause you nothing but stress, misery, and wasted youth.
