I'm wondering what you ladies think about being a nurturer or being supportive. I'd like to be the kind of person who is trusted when my friends are going through tough times. But I don't think I'm a naturally supportive person.
For example, my boss is an older man, and a creative type. I get the sense that he needs something from me that I can't give. Like he needs to stress out and panic about something and I feel like he wants some sort of emotional journey with me. My approach tends to be very analytical and to not give into panic until I know that there's a real problem. It's happened a couple times where he's been worried about a project and then it turned out okay.
I don't like being put in this role in a professional setting. I feel like my boss should be more in control. I definitely am not the type to coddle a creative type. I just don't get that struggle.
I wonder if I give off the same vibe in my personal relationships. I am very conscious of trying to use supportive language instead of problem solving language when a friend is telling me about a hardship. I hope that if I do find a man worth being in a relationship with I can be supportive in the same way with him.
What does "supportive" look like to you?
