I get it. It's nice to be complimented, told you're beautiful/pretty/amazing, etc whatever. And that's not to say you aren't any of these things. Your opinion matters the most out of anyone elses and you should strive to have high self esteem. And it's totally ok to accept a compliment.

But sometimes, our ego gets bigger. And when we rely on flattery/compliments/our looks, you have to remember flattery is also a manipulation tactic. And a lot of people out there are very manipulative in various ways. I've seen it happen at my job, working with various people of...the cluster B spectrum (again, not to be offensive, just being honest) they are very good at getting you to feel special and they'll elevate you and place you on a pedestal. But so can highly manipulative regular people and men who practice game. Ego is a very strong force if not kept in check. People have ulterior motives. So just something to keep in mind.
