I adore the movie My Man Godfrey. It came about in response to the Hayes code, which is indirectly responsible for many romcom tropes.

The main female character is shameless throwing herself at a homeless man she hired as her Butler.

I used to like it sincerely because it was the ultimate "quirky well meaning girl gets snarky guy who doesn't seem to be into her due to forced closeness."

Now I like it because her shamelessness is embarrassing and funny.

SPOILER in the end she forces him to marry her against his will. Ultimately pickmesha move. She also essentially forces an engagement with another man earlier in the movie to make Godfrey jealous (it doesn't work).
