It really does take strength to move on. It's difficult to make that decision and stick with it. But it honestly hurts even more to stay. Staying is a soul killer. You have a much better chance when you leave and move forward.

Just write down all the bad things, when we feel loss we tend to dwell on the positives and what we think they could be. But deep down, there’s a lot of flaws that another girl will have to put up with and had to put up with him half time and not full time

I've found it helps to set new goals for the future, ones that make my life better and happier. Little goals like a new healthy habit, and big ones like traveling abroad. That makes me focus on MY future, rather than obsess over the one I imagined with him. If I find myself getting into a rut thinking about the ex (for example, wondering again and again why he did something), I try to distract myself with activities that'll help me achieve those goals.

Also, it's helpful to make a list of everything wrong with him, and every unkind or selfish thing he's done. Reading that list will remind you that he wasn't so great after all, and give you a better sense of perspective. If you're ever tempted to contact him or remember only the good times, read that list.

I think what helps me is to focus on myself rather than the other person.

The anger that comes from these situations can often lead to shame, that you should have done better left sooner. But that’s only hurting you. Focus on what in you allowed those behaviors, forgive yourself. Focus on all the ways you’re going to level up, maybe with your friend as accountability. Imagine alll that energy we often spent mulling over all the things that went wrong, and putting that into bettering and loving ourselves!

I’m sorry both of you had similar shitty situations, you don’t deserve that.
