I find myself agreeing with that, unfortunately. I'm in a very loving marriage with a great, supportive husband, but virtually every man or male friend that I know has some buried misogynist attitudes.

Example: a friend of mine at work got upset when a recently hired woman took time off for pregnancy and hissed at me that she 'ought to have known'. A year later, of course, his wife took maternity leave from her new job. The disconnect between the two statements never got through to him.

Both my boss and my husband tend to stereotype women coworkers they don't like as "scheming" and "overly ambitious". Husband was, admittedly, quite ashamed of himself when I pointed out the woman in question was probably just annoyed at him for not caring as as herself much about a program she was invested in, not just 'discarding him' since she had 'no more use for him' for her career.

So yeah, people (not just men) have a lot of internalized misogyny and since your male partners and friends' attitudes towards women will definitely affect your relationship, I agree with that statement.

I don’t know if I entirely agree with this but it feels that way. For a long time I’ve disliked other women (and naturally, myself) so naturally I seem to attract men that hate women. At 14 my first “boyfriend” told me some story that “proved” how if women are raped for long enough periods of time they’ll end up liking it, and how he’d have to kill me if I ever got raped because my life wouldn’t be worth living anymore. I was venting to my most recent (ex) boyfriend about how I tend to hate other women and don’t want to, and that I wish I weren’t a bitter person that struggled to find friendships with other women. His response was that “women who hate other women are always the coolest ones”. I’m starting to realize I have to fix all this internalized hatred if I want the person I’m with to treat me respectfully
