My ex used to love calling me bro and especially sloot when we started dating. Like wow ok call your gf a slut? Wtf! I was pick me so I was too afraid to speak up. That type of negging made me feel like he saw me as an actual bro and not a woman. It stripped me of feeling respected and feminine.

Flirting is supposed to inspire you to get to know someone better. He was negging. I believe that language is powerful and should be wielded as such. Also, when men get vulgar or use profanity if FEELS more dangerous than when women do it. People have different standards around this but I’m not friends with anyone who uses vulgarity (excluding the occasional f bomb😜) racial epithets or racist language or thinks it’s funny to talk about violence casually. (My sister and I will occasionally call each other the B word but context matters. If we had an actual issue we would talk it out like adults.)

Definite LVM behavior.

Every guy I've dated has done this. Not lighthearted ribbing about something like me showing up an hour too early to everything, just straight up insults that weren't really even veiled as jokes. Some guys do it "sarcastically" out of their own insecurity. They know you're out of their league so they sarcastically act like you have flaws you don't, the joke being that it's SO obvious you actually don't have these flaws that it's fUnNy. And then some guys do it out of pure manipulative maliciousness. Their goal is to lower your self esteem because the lower it gets the more abuse you'll tolerate from them. If you call them out on insulting you that's when they use the ol' "it was a joke" excuse, even though when they insulted you there was nothing in their tone or how they delivered it that indicated it was meant to be taken as a joke. Someone deadpan insulting you isn't a joke and was never actually meant as a joke.

This is the kind of guy who’d think it would be okay to call you crude words like an idiot or an asshole in front of your friends and family for losing a round at game night. Then everyone has to awkwardly laugh along while feeling sorry for you.

Glad you cut this loser at the pass and good for you for spotting that negging. It never goes away.
