I met my boyfriend around 4 months ago and we have been chatting since December last year. He is generally very lovely - paid for all of our dates in the beginning, waited for sex and displayed many other HVM traits. He even got me groceries before I came back from a work trip right before everyone went into proper quarantine here.
Since we've been in quarantine, he's still been HVM. I adopted a dog which he helps with a lot (she wasn't potty trained when I got her and he would help clean up after her etc). He brings over food and orders take away for us. He washes dishes and helps clean too.
But some things have started to irk me and I don't know whether it's just because I have cabin fever.
He has a very tight-knit group of friends and IMO they have a very weird, clingy and immature relationship. For example, he asked if they wanted to organise a dinner one weekend before quarantine and they all said they were busy. We decided we'd go out with some of my friends instead. We bumped into his friends later on that evening at a bar while we were still with my friends and then his friends proceeded to get mad at him because we didn't stick around to chat to them long enough... Even though they were the ones who said they were too busy for us?? I have since met them at a party he hosted and had a conversation with one of them but they then blamed one of his other friends for monopolising my time (LOL what) for not chatting to me more.
Anyway, over the weekend, he mentioned that he was upset that none of his friends "liked" our FB relationship status change. One of them commented with a Senor Chang gif that read "GAY" which I was honestly less than impressed with. We had a discussion about that and he said he thinks they're just being possessive of him.
This, in and of itself doesn't bother me. He said it's their problem and they can't expect him to stay single forever just so that they can continue to hang out without someone "crashing" their circle...
But what does bother me is that right before that, I tried to discuss feelings with him and he darted around the conversation and then later said he wasn't good with expressing his emotions. He resumed the conversation later when I mentioned I was annoyed by that and he said he "really really likes" me and "feels comfortable" around me. He also says I am the first person he wants to see after a long day and I make him feel better.
I don't know about this. The shit with his friends is a red flag and in addition to this, he has told me he "doesn't post on social media much" but has posted shit about ex girlfriends in the past. He's also cancelled a dinner with his mother where I was supposed to meet her... Granted it was because things were starting to ramp up on the pandemic front but he cancelled it and later tried to make it seem like it was his mother's idea? I understand it's good to be cautious and am by no means suggesting that he or anyone else should ignore health warnings - but why lie?
Anyway, as I mentioned, I don't know whether I am just feeling irksome because of the pandemic or whether I am falling back into some old pickmeisha habits but I need some advice. Honest advice either way. If this is just me blowing shit out of the water for no reason then I'll take it.
I've told him not to talk to me until he figures out how he feels and can understand where I'm coming from, particularly in relation to me being upset about shit with his friends.
