The way people treat others has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them. Even when conflict comes up, there's an abusive, aggressive, disrespectful, and dismissive way to handle it, and there's a mature, respectful, or loving way.

A lot of the time this is an unhealthy coping mechanism and a reflection of how someone feels about them-self.
So for example, if they have low self esteem and you’re kind to them, they’ll think there’s something wrong with you. To conform with their beliefs, they’ll tear you down to make you see how awful they truly are.
