Hi all,

I’ve made a throwaway as my partner is aware of my reddit account. I’ve been following this sub for a number of months while I try to wrap my head around my feelings.

For context me and my partner have been together for over six years, we met when we were both teenagers (I was 19, currently 26). I was a VERY different person then, I’m talking fully dependant on male affection thanks to my emotionally abusive ex. I jumped straight from a two year relationship to my current one so the entirety of my twenties, I’ve spent in a relationship.

He’s not a bad person but he doesn’t have a lot of drive to achieve things, he’s also extremely antisocial meaning I have to make up for his lack of companionship. My entire routine is built around spending time with him and making sure he’s happy.

The older I’ve got the more confidence I’ve gained, there’s so many things about myself I want to change and improve but he’s happy with me the way I am so I never end up doing anything about it. I’m very easily swayed away from hard work but I’ve realised a lot of my success and hard work has came when I’ve had time away from him (we did long distance when I got my degree related job) or prior to us being together.

We are essentially two best friends living together, we haven’t had sex in months because I have no desire for him anymore as a sexual partner.

I’ve been as honest as I could be about my issues with the relationship and he usually gets really upset making it extremely difficult for me to stick to my guns and leave. He calls me the love of his life and talks about wanting to marry me and how if we broke up he’d still love me but he says he’ll always respect my decision.

Despite his flaws I do genuinely like him as a person and I’ve never been in a situation of breaking up with someone who I still genuinely like and care about.

Whats the best course of action moving forward? Especially when so much of our lives are tied together from our belongings, to splitting bills in a rental etc? And how do I really stick to being by myself after years of being connected to another person? (Also I’m in a country currently under lockdown due to covid-19 so cant realistically move anytime soon, do I pretend our relationships fine til were out of quarantine?)

Thank you so much for this subreddit and everyone who contributes, it’s really kept me sane through all of this.

TL;DR - I wanna leave my long term partner...what do I do?
