I like how this is worded better than it typically is. Basically if you have low self-esteem, you think being treated like shit is normal. I wish I'd heard that when I was 18.

I have asked men before, "Why do you think the general advice is that if you can't love yourself you can't love others?" and the responses are always... illuminating. To me, the reason you need to love yourself first is if you don't you will always question, doubt, and poke holes in the other person's love for you. You will sabotage that which you do not believe.
