Well dont put people on pedestals. She was a drug addict, a HUGE pickmeisha, mentally ill and had sex with every power broker in Hollywood in exchange for fame. I feel sorry for her for sure, she had a shit run of it but I certainly dont look up to her. Its sometimes important to see past the image for who people really are.
Not saying you shouldnt love her, just love the real her and not the fake Hollywood image. She even had tons of plastic surgery to "look" like her.

I feel like she was progressive for her time in a sense. despite her issues (particularly with her mother) she strove for self sufficiency. guess we’ll never know but I think she was avant garde for her time period

How is that the case? She was the lowest paid hollywood starlet in the roster. Every other woman in the Hollywood system back then brokered themselves a better deal then marilyn did. Most of the other actresses either felt sorry for her or despised her for prostituting herself.

I just like some of her movies and I think that she's a complex person who was unlucky in her personal life, not the 2d dumb-dumb that you believe that she is.

Not at all. I actually do see her for who she really was, complexity and all. That was my point. Everyone here just sees the 2D Hollywood fantasy.
Its interesting, even Jackie Kennedy saw her for what she was. She was angry that her husband had an affair with her more because of how damaged and on the edge of sanity marilyn was then because of the actual affair. Jackie had her own issues with men obviously but she could see a disturbed woman and empathize. She gave her husband shit for taking advantage of a broken woman.

Lol, this is from a book on her life, you hardly need to know famous people personally to know things about them. Its not bizarre at all, Jackie knew her husband cheated, she obviously wasn't happy about it, but she also knew marilyn was a very unstable girl, everyone back then did. She was a public mess.
When your husband is the president of the US its not a good look for him to be out sticking his dick in crazy and having that blow up in their faces publicly. Marilyn was trying to contact him constantly, harassing his staff, etc, she was obsessed with Kennedy, it was a mess.
Most books about famous people's lives are fantasies on the part of the author.
There is no legit proof about Jackie's feelings about Marilyn anywhere but Jackie's head.
And yet you all feel you "know" marilyn monroe. Ok then.
There were other interviews with people that knew marilyn and jackie that said the same things.

Eh, might get downvoted to oblivion, but people are enamored cause she died young. If she had time to age like Mansfield, Taylor, or Loren, she wouldn't be on tshirts and various other trash merchandise. I honestly have never gotten the fuss over her.
