I read a story (twitter thread) about how a brother and sister were arguing and the brother said something not so nice to the sister causing him to be sent to his room. The sister felt bad and wrote her brother an apology letter for getting him in trouble. The mother told her that that was not okay and she should NEVER feel bad for someone who hurts her feelings.
So, FDS, I am wondering would that be considered the start of codependency (I mean we develop habits like this when we’re young), feeling bad when a person has hurt you (emotionally or physically) and apologizing for it? If not, what would this be called (if it has a word for it)?
I would like to add that the mother (who was telling the story) let us know the brother was also talked to about how he talks to his sister and what he said was NOT OKAY! Plus the daughter understood that she didn’t need to apologize to her brother because her feelings were hurt and HE SHOULD apologize. That mom is doing good by her kids.
