The misandrist idea that single men are lonely because they should be ‘emotionally available’ and ‘open up more’ totally debunked.

I thought r/men was a neutral sub for men. But they’re as censorious as men’s lib.

It's not even "equality" in education. There's a 60/40 ratio in college grads.

The study is paywalled, but quoting from an earlier draft that is available: ftp://repec.iza.org/RePEc/Discussionpaper/dp11933.pdf

“male subjects (super)liked 61.9% of the female evaluated profiles, while female subjects (super)liked only 4.5% of the male evaluated profiles. This finding is in line with previous research on online dating in general and on Tinder in particular. Indeed, Tyson et al. argue that this is due to a feedback loop: ‘men are driven to be less selective in the hope of attaining a match, whilst women are increasingly driven to be more selective, safe in the knowledge that any profiles they like will probably result in a match’. Additionally, this finding is in line with previous research in evolutionary psychology, and more specifically with parental investment theory. This theory argues that women have a greater parental investment and are therefore looking for the most high-quality partner possible, in order to obtain high-quality offspring, therefore being more selective. Conversely, men have a smaller parental investment and are looking to maximise the quantity of offspring, resulting in them being less selective…

Finally, we note that male subjects started a conversation with the female evaluated profiles much more often (42.3%) than the other way around (6.2%)…

More specifically, we find that male evaluated profiles with a Ma+ degree secure at least twice as many matches compared with their counterparts which were lower educated…

Next, we find evidence for a preference for hypergamy when considering all subjects: the subjects are 26.5% more likely to like an evaluated profile that is higher educated than themselves, compared with when that is not the case. Again, this effect is driven by the female subjects, who like higher educated profiles 92.2% more often, whereas this effect is not significant for the male subjects. These findings are in line with those of Whyte and Torgler, who used data from a classic online dating website.

Finally, we find that both male and female subjects disfavour the evaluated profiles who have a lower education level than themselves. More specifically, male and female subjects like these profiles 10.1% and 45.4% less often, respectively.”

It would be interesting to see a study of how much they care about the education itself versus how much they care about the perceived income of people who have the education they care about. In other words, is caring about the education a primary problem, or is it a secondary symptom of caring about the person's income?

I think this is a worthwhile thing to talk about, but mostly in the sense of "be aware of this."

It isn't like any amount of advocacy will fix this in the short term; women can set whatever preferences they like, even if they are unreasonable. We won't logic them out of their position, and we certainly can't shame them out of it. Even trying is likely to be a good way to lose ground.

Its hard to do, but as much as we can manage I think we should try not to invoke "defense mechanisms" towards women; in practice, this will look like trying not to paint women in any kind of negative light whatsoever.

Much of the resistance towards male advocacy is not actually based on saying our position is wrong, it is saying that any position "against" women simply can't be right.

Well we could respond to every woman complaining about the lack of suitable men with accusations of toxic femininity.

[–]magus678 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It suspect that it would be largely counter-productive. Most people are not ready to hear nakedly negative things said about women in general.

It is something that probably feels good on a personal level but isn't earning any friends on a movement level.

It is the same tactics they use on us so why not use some of their own medicine on them?

[–]magus678 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because women are more sympathetic than men, and in a way that we cant simply coopt.

It's similar to how a child occupied a different social space than an adult. Treating it as symmetrical doesn't work.

Because women are more sympathetic than men

You kid, right?

[–]magus678 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As in, people are more sympathetic to them. They generate more sympathy than men, not that they possess more.

[–]LeJacquelope 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Okay, gotcha.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah women are either going to need to start fighting for equality in education (which means improving conditions for men) or be willing to marry down" (perhaps internalizing some toxic masculinity will help in that regards, since men don't seem as concerned with the social status of their wife).

Or they can be miserable and alone.

This is a good example of how female supremacy hurts everyone.

[–]LeJacquelope 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LOL let them be miserable and alone.
