It was as a spoonful of peas “flew” toward my two-year-old mouth, that I first learnt that the lesson of – what I want, and what I need are not always the same thing.

I relearn this lesson pretty much on a daily basis – and I wish more people would too.

For life has many uncomfortable lessons, and hard-to-hear realities; each to be sat with, chewed upon, and quietly considered.

Things we may not want to hear, but remain true none the less.

This is perhaps most salient within the discussion of domestic violence, where mountains of research now points us toward the unpalatable reality that – actually, women are equally as violent in relationships as men are.

What. Yuck. Gross. Ew, the taste. So we spit it out.

Women equally likely to perpetrate domestic abuse?

That doesn’t feel good, that doesn’t sound right, it wasn’t what I was told, or led to believe. The virtue squad and all their social currency will crucify me for saying such a thing.

It’s upsetting. Offensive. But entirely accurate.

But like I said, what we want to hear and what we need to hear, are often not the same.

And yes there are many vegetables to wince, grimace and splutter over here at u/TheTinMenBlog, so what do you find hardest to swallow?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if maled suffer more domestic abuse from their female partners due to society treating it as less serious or even unworthy of note. All men have been taught not to hit a woman. The same cannot be said true for women. I have talked with a lot of guys who admit to being in a relationship with a woman who would slap/hit/throw things at them and even they didn't think it was abuse

Just been having an argument with someone who was saying DV numbers don't really matter, it's about how many men or women get killed because of it that matters. It's shifting the goalposts yet again of course, but it's made me curious, are there any stats available on causes of deaths in relationships that cover the whole gamut of issues, including death from suicide because of relationship failure/withholding of affection or lack of family contact post-divorce?

I know it's unlikely to be available, or even considered for study, but if it's out there I'd be very interested to see it.

I have a sneaking gut suspicion that men suffer domestic violence, wether physical or non-physical, at even higher rates than what was stated above solely because they never reported it because we are conditioned not to fight back.

But that's just my opinion...

There's a pretty good video by youtubers Aba and Preach where they interview women who have hit men and men who have been hit. It's pretty eye opening.

You bury the truth on slide 6, but women are substantially more violent in every relationship. Not equally. Not even close.
