Thoughts on this? (Basically, the thread talks about how men overestimate their certain traits)

There is this adage that depressed people aren't pessimists, but realists. But this isn't necessarily an attitude that is conducive to success. It sometimes pays to be a little deluded about your own capabilities in order to take risks, because a more sober look at the situation might lead to a conclusion that the risk is not worth it.

The extreme example is of course Donald Trump. And while Trump is very far below his own self-image on about every aspect of his overall being, personality, and skills, he's the president of the foremost world power.

Now if there's a confidence gap between men and women, should we take men down a peg or should we rise women to the same level? It's an interesting question. We can imagine that if too many people have a Trump-level of self delusion, this can have very bad results. But there can be a healthy degree of self-overestimation.

I'd be inclined to say that we should try to instill women with more assertiveness and confidence to try to close this confidence gap, instead of trying to breed it out of men.

I think this can be true to an extent. It’s definitely true on TRP, which is about as toxic as sexism gets. That said, I don’t think it applies to men as a whole, particularly when they’re living in a society where feminist undertones shame masculinity while traditional values shame femininity in men. In my experience most men aren’t even very good at coming up with things they like about themselves.

I'm not about to turn this into a bash-men comment but the fact is men generally overstate their positive traits and understate their negative ones (which is a very human and forgivable thing to do). So instead of accepting they're viewing themselves and sometimes other men through rose colored glasses, they dive into this false belief and turn women into bad guys for not agreeing with them."
