Not in Germany. In Germany you always go all in with a marriage. The Family court just looks at all assets and then gives the women half of it. The dark humor here is, sometimes the women gets less than half from the money saved - they are of course furious about that - but there is an evil reason behind this: The Family court knows roughly the cost of the trial and therefore the cost of both lawyer (yes, if you lose you also have to pay your wife's lawyer). So they sometimes let the men keep more than 50% of the money -> SO HE CAN WITH THAT MONEY PAY OF THE FAMILY COURT AND BOTH LAWYERS.

So he is totally broke after this in any way and has to pay her alimony. However, there is a way around alimony, which is funny as hell. If you earn less than 1024 € - after taxes - you don't have to pay. However you have to keep that up for the rest of your live, because you'll be in debt for the money you didn't pay. Still, this is nicer than thinking about what crap you Ex-Wife does with your money and you'll probably after paying her will not have much more than that left anyways. So you work less and enjoy life instead of paying her money - cringes them out :D

Nah, wife moved out....left me with one blanket, 2 cups and an pan. This was supervised by the police....regardless of the fact I married at 36, already had 2 fully furnished houses......cops said I must let her take it all for the kids comfort.( which she got)....and this in a culture where traditionally the kids belong to the man.....???

The system is rigged against men......don't get married ......

If u still want to get married, save yrself some time and pain......just go find some random woman you totally hate, give her yr house and half of every thing you possess, pension etc.......much less effort this way. Probably better, actually....you might not get locked up, or get so depressed you want to blow yr fucking brains out....

For Turkish Civil Law (basing on Swiss Code) it's the same. Also, there is the stuff that named as personal assets that don't count as assets that were acquired during marriage such as legacy or only in use of/can be used by one of the spouses, etc.

And there are also calculations for that, for example, you have a legacy from your parents a house in Istanbul that worths 100k$. If you sell it and use it to buy a new one with your spouse for 200k$ in Izmir and by the time you divorce house worths 300k$. The 150k$ will be your personal asset and the other 150k$ will be split %50-%50.

Your portrayal is not quite accurate. Legally any assets or property you had before marriage stays yours after divorce. This is called "separate property".

Unless you have a prenup saying otherwise or not in a community property state, any income from either spouse is considered shared equally by both. This is called "community property"

How people lose their separate property in divorce is after being married they use "community property" income to pay for one or the others "separate property". You can't even say well I used "my half" to pay for it. Any dime spent of community property income entitles the other partner to gain an ownership interest in the value gains in that separate property. This is where it becomes a lawyer fest.

To best protect yourself do the following:

1) Don't get married or cohabitate
2) If married, have a prenup that does not allow "community property". Your income is yours and hers is hers. Maintain a joint account for common expenses that you equally contribute to.
3) Don't co-mingle any separate property in any way with any joint account payments. The cleanest thing is have all your separate property owned by a corporation or trust before marriage and keep all income/expenses far away from your personal life with your spouse.
3) Don't allow her not to work for any reason, kids, school or princess complex, whatever...

I find it funny that the USSR's divorce law made more sense than that of Australia and the US.

In Australia 50% of everything before and after the marriage is on the table as a baseline. Often this can get far beyond 50% excluding legal costs.
It's a crime to use physical force to defend yourself, or to deny a significant other unlimited access to your money for any or no reason. These actions and others are considered domestic violence.
Marriage is automatic, is not subject to minimum cohabitation time frames in any state or territory. There is no distinction between a written marriage and one established automatically. There are no restrictions in Australian law this is at the discretion of the courts.
All prenups are also null and void without legal effect. (Anyone saying otherwise is fucking retarded)
A woman can accuse you of a crime in the family court, a civil court in which you have no prospect of defense.
Any relationship can be considered a marriage and the family courts abuse this daily.
Children functionally are women's personal property, who they may kill at any time.
Men have zero rights and subject to a separate system of "justice"

No it's not, it depends if she was with you before the marriage and how long, if she can show a dependency on you before the marriage, this is why marriage isn't worth the paper paid for it because it's just a legal contract of how assets are going to be split, a prenup is also similarly worthless.

It's basically a way for women to guarantee that they benefit out of a marriage regardless of how they behave.

Most if not all women will say they want commitment but I ask how does a marriage make that certain, when women are in fact more likely to have an affair than men, more likely to start divorce than men, who then needs the security.

They will say it's about showing you live each other, again if a piece of paper is needed for that then you have to ask how good was the live you had for each other to begin with.
