I was falsely accused 2 years ago by a girl who felt regret after sexually harassing me while I was unconscious drunk. Became severely depressed and anxious from the allegation and all my friends taking her side, got so bad I stayed home the last 4 months of highschool. It became clinical and I didn’t get into my university of choice, had a breakup with my gf, and still struggle to do normal everyday functions. I got her to confess over an (unbeknownst to her) recorded phonecall.

Am I fucking pissed I was too shook to go to the police about then? Yes. Do I hate her guts for what she did to me and wish she would die a slow, excruciatingly painful death? Yes. Do I think she should get over ten years in prison for it? I really want to say yes, but I’m pretty sure that would be excessive, unproductive and spending tax payer dollar. I’m sure she would learn her lesson THOROUGHLY with 2 years locked up. This, plus the combination of it being another deterrent for actual victims to speak up, is in my opinion enough to justify a shorter than the actual crime, prison sentence. Although it makes my blood boil to even think of it.

Prison...particularly American and canadian ones however, serve no fucking use (ditto society really ). They make people worse. I'd rather shorter trade school type rehab. Women can all go to fucking beauty school.

I regard it as an injustice that our legal system does not do this. It's really only fair, and I would go further and say that some mechanism should be in place to achieve parity with the degree of reputational damage suffered by the victim. If his name was plastered all over the media before a verdict is reached, there should either be a major settlement from the media companies or this woman needs to go on a high profile sex offender registry for false accusations (really both).

Unfortunately that would skew the incentives against people making false accusations to confess. I agree in principle though.
