First of all, it's true that pistols do make up the largest amount of individual shootings in America, however that statistic leaves out how many people die in each shooting. Assault weapons are far more lethal per shooting than pistols are. This issue becomes compounded when they're used in places that people likely can't fight back, like a school, church, or store. That's the issue the assault weapons ban is meant to target.

Secondly, nobody is trying to take away the guns you already have. That's the most common misunderstanding I hear about the gun debate from conservatives. Keep your rifles. The goal is to prevent new ones from getting onto the street.

Third, and this is a genuine question, what do you hope to accomplish by owning an assault rifle anyways? You're gonna "fight the government?" I'd love to see you try. Let me tell you man, that AR-15 would look real tough next to a bomber.

You use an assault rifle to hunt? That's probably the laziest thing I've ever heard in my life but sure.

And yes... I do think the armed forces would side with the government. I'm not saying that would be "my" side, because in this hypothetical conflict that would never happen I have no idea what side I would choose, but the military is quite literally part of the government. They always have and will continue to fight for the government.

It's rich hearing about how I'm a tyrant when Trump himself literally wanted to make Muslim Americans carry identification cards around to do things. Or how children are being locked in cages away from their families on our borders. Those same children aren't getting the care they need and are getting sick and dying. Or how medicine people need is too expensive for them to ever afford. But god forbid one decision is made to make children in schools safer from psychopaths.

The "gOvErnMenT iS tyRrAnNicAl" sect of Republicans are just pawns in the NRA's game. You're being used by billionaire corporations to make money, and you're too stupid and blind to realize they don't actually give a fuck about you, orbthe average American. They lobby our politicians and then use fearmongering tactics to make dumbasses like you think that Muslims, Mexicans, and poor people are causing your problems. The second you stop advertising for them, you become an "enemy to America".

Nobody is trying to take your guns. The people, not the government, but the people, are pushing for an assault weapons ban because our country objectively has more mass shootings than any other first world country. But that doesn't mean some scary FBI agent is going to show up at your door asking for your guns. An assault weapons ban would only prevent the sale of new guns.

Come to think of it, if you think the armed forces would side against the government anyways, who are you even scared of trying to take your guns? You think Bernie Sanders himself is going to show up at your door with his hands outstretched?

Wake the fuck up. You're a pawn in someone else's game to make money. A puppet. Nothing more.

There's so much wrong with the hammer analogy and you're missing so many of my points, but sure I'll respond to it.

Give me a source on that.
A hammer is a tool with an express purpose that doesn't involve killing. More people die by car every year than by hammer, gun, or whatever ever else you want to use in your BS argument. But because cars serve a purpose outside of just killing, nobody tries to ban them. We just try to make sure everyone who has them is properly licensed and has taken the necessary training to know how to use them safely... kind of like what most leftists are trying to do with guns. But even though cars are allowed, you're still not allowed to drive a tank down the road if it's tracks are metal and it's gun isn't disabled. Kinda like how super-dangerous guns shouldn't be allowed either.
There's a big difference in the amount of people you can murder at one time with a hammer. In all honesty, if you can walk into a movie theater and kill 30 people with a hammer then I'll eat my words.
Most guns used in mass shootings are purchased legally, and often by people who wouldn't otherwise have access to assault weapons if they were illegal. Yeah, banning assault weapons won't stop gun violence completely. Nobody thinks otherwise. But it might deter would-be criminals from becoming criminals, and that's worth it.
Most other developed nations have strict gun control and also way fucking less gun violence than this one. I guess that's just a coincidence though.

Yeah guns will surely defend you from tanks, gas bombs, and anything a modern military arsenal can unleash.

A highly armed civilian population may only lead to civil war between different similarly armed groups. Not to mention the mass shootings you have on the regular.

It is very weird to me as a European, the gun culture and the resistance to universal medical care.

Anyway, you don't have any fighting chance against your government. When your constitution was drafted, yes. Now, no. The only thing that could work is, is the only thing that worked against the US military. Protracted guerrilla warfare with asymmetrical losses.

At least you can hope that the military itself (and the highly militarised police forces) won't turn against their own people, no matter the fools in charge, but you never know. These things have happened.

The American empire? What empire? Are you drunk? You think Russia is strong? Besides nuclear weapons, what have they got? their Army is weak, their economy is weak, and their leadership is weak. In fact, most of the leadership just quit!

They Quit- now why would they quit such a strong country with such a bright future? The answer is that Russia is a has-been country that has been on a decline since we defeated them in the Cold War. And Putin can't be president past 2024, so the lie of democracy is about to face its final demise.

yeah Russia is indeed crumbling, and what we see is the slow death of a country that has wonderful people, and a string of ruthless dictators that used up the people and resources, and are a disgrace. They can't even get any loans to float their troubled economy, because their word is worthless.

Sorry, it’s late. I misread that. Yeah you can do guerrilla warfare I said that in the first post.

The difference being it’s different fighting a proxy war and a civil war in your own country. The government going rogue and the military and police attacking civilians is a very unlikely scenario. The more likely one is as I said states vs states like the previous one or groups against groups. In any case it would be chaos. America is an empire in the same way he Soviet Union was and all the empires before it. Just because it doesn’t declare itself as such, doesn’t make it less true. You project power, have military outside your territory, occupy other states and exploit their resources. You even have vasal states. That’s an empire. And a militaristic one. Empires rise, reach a peak and fall. Your empire is in decline. Doesn’t mean the US will disintegrate, but it is also an option and a spark for a civil war. The European imperial powers kept their homeland but lost their empires.

Yes, Russia is strong and getting stronger. They had their decline in the 90s with the American puppets until Putin came to power and lifted it from the rock bottom it hit. The govt quitting is part of Putin’s engineering, and I don’t think it’s because he wants to hold onto power forever, like the alarms In the western media, and do another switcheroo, it is because he wants to create an infrastructure of power that will last after he is retired or dead. Whether he will succeed or not, we’ll see

It is already against your constitution. It's not of the people, by the people, for the people any more. It's of corporations for corporations in the chase of the newest highest ideal, the almighty profit. You're not free, you are mostly debt slaves trained in consumerism, which keeps the shackles on. But sure, keep the guns, those protect against uncertainty and fear of the future, right? Keep your ridiculous medical system that has people fearing to even see a doctor because of the costs.

States were made to provide security to people, and most modern states provide at least some semblance of social, educational, medical, property and body security, as well as infrastructure. For that racket you pay taxes. If a state does not do those services adequately it is a failed state.

Guns can be very effective especially combined with military personnel who rebel against their tyrannical commanding officer. Civil wars historically involve a divide that reaches into the government sector... isn’t that obvious?

The first thing dictators do is disarm their citizens so they can be more easily enslaved.

I prefer an open market where insurance companies have to compete to get your money and so offer better care at lower cost. Trump wants to remove the artificial boundaries that limit competition amongst insurance companies. I do not want the government stealing money from my paychecks (ultimately at gunpoint) to buy my healthcare from providers that do not have the incentive which is found in competition.

You are factually wrong. Americans pay way way more, for worse healthcare. Sure if you are rich or at least somewhat affluent and can afford better health care than the universal one, pay more and get that. But nobody should face financial ruin because they got sick.

Also you seem to think gun control is about taking away all your guns. It’s more about like going trough a painstaking bureaucratic DMV like experience to get licensed for a gun, with very deep background checks, and not buying ammo in Walmart like you’re grocery shopping.

I don’t want to ever own a gun despite our governments being corrupt as hell, having lived through two insurgencies on my doorstep, and all the civil wars in our neighboring states in the 90s, plus the courtesy of American bombardment. People here are kinda fed up of shooting others for various interests. War is hell. Don’t invite it. How about some peaceful civil protest and disobedience like the civil rights movement and the anti Vietnam sentiment, or how India won its independence. They can’t kill you all.
